  1. Another question but, Have you ever reconsidered where an Intermission should go into a film after you already made an entry? Like you realize that maybe thats not a good place to pause the film and this place is better. Or are you generally confident with your choices.

    1. There has been the odd film that I have changed, but once I post the page I usually keep that suggested intermission (my personal opinion). I do keep the comments section open on each films page in order for others to chime in. I have had suggestions for other intermission points in films. Unless the film has an official intermission, a break in film can be debated.

  2. I recently watched a film called Kokuho that came out this year and it is 174 minutes long. Could you add this to the database? Also while not chapters, The film is seperated into certain years which makes finding an intermission much easier.

  3. Could you add Resan: The Journey and Edvard Munch? Both are directed by Peter Watkins.

    1. I can add both, I am worried about being able to track down a full version of Resan, I see it is on youtube but only 18/ 19 parts have been posted. Do you know of any other sites that might carry it?

  4. Hello, I think you should add Guillermo Del Toro’s Frankenstein: it’s 150 minutes long and is already divided in two acts (Victor’s and the Creature’s tale respectively).

  5. Could you add “I am Cuba” to this list, Though it is not 150 minutes long (It’s 141 minutes), It is seperated into two parts. On Youtube (Mosfilms channel), The Part 2 title card appears around an hour and 8 minutes into the film.

  6. Hello, I recently watched a film called “That Day, On The Beach” by Edward Yang that clocks in at 166 minutes or 2 hours and 46 minutes. Could you add this film to your database?

  7. Hello, it’s me again. As someone below has alredy suggested, there’s another movie that deserves its spot in your database: Out 1 Noli Me Tangere, by Jacques Rivette (it’s twelve-to-thirteen hours long).
To top that, there’s also the Heimat saga (just check its runtime and you’ll see).

    1. Don’t forget Out 1 Spectre too. While it’s mostly just a highly condensed (It’s 4 hours) cut of the original, There are scenes not present in Noli Me Tangere.

    2. I have added Out 1 (1971). The Heimat Sega is an interesting one as the films are split into episodes making it fall into a mini-series (which I have excluded from the database at this time). However the Home from Home: Chronicle of a Vision (2013) can be included as it is one feature film not split into episodes. Thanks again for researching.

      1. In my opinion the whole Heimat saga is an extremely borderline example as it’s apparently presented as a movie but at the same time no theatre on Earth would screen it as a movie, so it can only be seen split in parts (as I read the parts were both projected in theatres and screened on television). I still consider each installment of the saga a movie. You’re welcome, though. I’ll suggest new movies as soon as I find new ones.

        1. Maybe it’s the same reason why you didn’t include silent serials such as Les Vampires, which is treated as a single movie but its serial format prevents it from being included in your database.

  8. Would you add “L’Amour Fou” by Jacques Rivette? Its runtime is over four hours.

      1. If you thought that was long, Wait til you see Jacques Rivette’s longest film “Out 1”. Definitely just begging to be on this database.

  9. I would like to make a correction. “The Battle of Baktan Cross” official name is “One Battle After Another”

  10. Could you add “Miracle in Milan” (1951)? It’s an Italian movie with a runtime of one hour and thirty-six minutes and it’s split in two acts (“primo tempo” and “secondo tempo”). Part one ends with “Fine primo tempo” (so you can add it at your intermission titles list) and it’s placed at about fifty minutes.
    Thank you.

      1. Anytime.
P.S. So, are you going to add it to the title scenes list too? As I said, there’s a “End of part one” title followed by “Part two”.

  11. Asking out of curiosity but, How do you watch a film? Do you watch it in a single sitting or multiple times and how do you determine where to put the intermission?

And what’s your favourite film that is listed here? (Optional)

    Like

    1. Yes I try to watch the film in its entirety as the details of the film are most fresh in my mind. Occasionally I will have to watch a film more than once to determine the best intermission based on my opinion. If the film is very long (4+ hours), I tend to watch half one night then the second half the next day. The most recent film I had to watch multiple times was Inside the Yellow Coconut Shell (2023) as it was a very slow moving plot.

The way I determine an intermission point is to first research to see if there was ever an intermission included in the theatrical release that may have been removed from the home release. If there is not an official intermission point then I view a film as two Acts (like they would do in a stage production). I ask myself where in the films plot does the story seem to change (i.e., change in character development, change in setting, a time lapse within the plot, or major cliffhanger).

Some films have a fade to black or a musical score that ends the scene in silence. This can also sometimes be used if the plot is complex or does not align with the films duration (e.g., you would not want a film to have a 140 min first part and a 20 min second part). I also tend to make the first part have a longer runtime than the second, but sometimes this is not always possible.

I’ll be honest some films can be quite tricky and can cause debate as to where one might put the intermission. I love to hear others insights which is why I keep the comments open on each page so we can have these discussions.

Favourite film on the database, I’ll be honest when I first started the database I had only seen maybe 50 of the films. Many of the films I have reviewed are for the first time especially the foreign language films. My favourite film on the database (one I could watch non-stop everyday) would be Scarface (1983). My favourite foreign language film is Downfall (2004). A film that really surprised me after watching, was the film trilogy The Human Condition (1959/1961). But there are plenty of great films on the database!

What is your favourite film listed on the database?

  12. Would you add And quiet flows the Don (1957) and As I was moving ahead I occasionally saw brief glimpses of beauty (2000)? The former is a Soviet epic directed by Sergei Gerasimov (it was released split in three parts, the first two in 1957 and the third one in 1958), while the latter is an autobiographical experimental documentary by Jonas Mekas. I think they’d make good new entries in your database.

        1. Technically each part was released at different times (kinda similar to the film the Human Condition), even though it is considered one entire film.

  13. I can’t comment on the film, But there is a mistake in regards to Blade Runner 2049. There is no other cut of the movie other than the one released in theaters. The extended cut that is mentioned is actually a workprint cut or an assembly cut that serves as a rough draft for editors to work with and is not intended for the public unless the studio decides to release it like the original Blade Runner or it gets leaked like Apocalypse Now did so please remove the “Extended” runtime on it.

      1. Late reply but, If you get to Love Exposure eventually, There is also mention of a 6 hour cut. But similarly, That is just the assembly cut but there is a miniseries version of Love Exposure based on that assembly cut just in case you want to add it.

  14. Hello there, I was wondering if The Simpsons Movie can be counted as a movie with intermission. After the scene where Homer finds out his family left and runs to reach them there’s a cut on a “To be continued…” line, albeit it’s only intended as a meta-joke since it’s followed by “…right now” or something like that. Given that you counted Monty Python and the Holy Grail, I wonder if The Simpsons Movie applies.

  17. Hello, I found a movie with intermission you could include in your database: “Un burattino di nome Pinocchio” (“A puppet called Pinocchio”), an Italian animated movie. It has running time of just ninety-three minutes but there is an intermission (it’s marked by a title card saying “Fine del primo tempo”/”End of part one” followed by another one saying “Secondo tempo”/”Part two”). I can send you the link of the movie if you wish, it’s on YouTube in Italian.

  19. Hello I was wondering whether or not you’ll allow community contributions in the future or is it still just going to be you running this because there are still some movies without entries.

    Like

    1. Yes I am still running the site. As I watch each film I will populate the page and provide my observations. I do have a comment section at the bottom of each film’s page, where community contributions can be made. It does take me some time as I have to locate the films (sometimes in various formats). I randomly watch the films stated in the database as I obtain them. Is there a specific film page you wanted me to populate?

      1. Is there a specific film page you wanted me to populate?

Not really. Just some films that I took interest in but didn’t have intermissions just yet but still in the database but take as much time as you need to.

  20. Would you add “Princes and Princesses”? It’s a 2000 French animated movie (animated with silhouette animation), an anthology o different stories (six in total), directed by Michel Ocelot. The movie is very short (one our and four minutes) but it has an intermission (complete with title card saying “On fait une pause de 1 minute et on peut parler…”)
It’s a very charming movie, it’d be a nice new entry for this website.
    Thanks.

      1. Great, I’ll wait for it then. I could send you the intermission title card if you will. It’s an animated title card with an owl on the top turning its head in a kitchen timer fashion whilst the intermission passes, I found it very cute).

          1. Ok, great. I hate to sound like I’m nitpicking but I saw that you mispelled the title by writing “Prince” instead of “Princes”.
Anyway, I have a screenshot of the intermission title card with the owl facing the audience. If you prefer it, I can still send it to you (I only need to know where).
Thanks for all your effort, I really appreciate your attention to details.

  22. Big fan of your page and I have used it for many films that have intermissions. Just wanted to let you know that your Camelot (1967) one is not correct. The intermission tag actually occurs at about 1 hour 41 minutes or so following King Arthur’s monologue and the reveal of the physical Round Table. Keep up the good work.

    1. Thank you for the support, may I ask which format you saw the intermission (i.e., DVD, Blu-ray)? I believe I based the intermission on the VHS (as it was released in a two tape cassette). I will certainly review this, thank you for your input.
