Where does the first part end? Jake (Sam Worthington) and Spider (Jack Champion) are captured and taken to the Resources Development Administration (RDA).

Final line of dialogue on the first part: “We got him people, end of an era,” shouts Colonel Miles Quaritch (Stephen Lang).

First line of dialogue on the second part: Spider undergoes testing by RDA scientists. An unnamed scientist sticks a needle into Spider’s arm and states; “Just feel this a little bit.”

How jarring is it when the first part ends? Jarring, with Jake now captured, the RDA plans to attack the Tulkun at their special gathering. Spider (who is now able to breathe Pandora) is forced to undergo testing by RDA scientists, as they begin to reverse engineer the mycelia in his body. Could this lead to other humans being able to breathe on Pandora?

Which part is better? Part one offers a strong atmosphere as we are introduced to the Ash people (a new Avatar tribe) and newer regions of Pandora. While the second half includes the biggest action sequences, which really highlights the visual effects (which this film won an Academy Award for). Although some may prefer part one as it is less conventional and more concentrated on character relationships, part two nevertheless gets the slight edge as most of the film’s major character moments and spectacle come together.
