Where does the first part end? Johnny Kisco (Gene Berry) speaks with a group of women following his conversation with Katherine Edmonds (Rhonda Fleming).
Final line of dialogue on the first part: “Would you girls settle for a plate of sour belly and beans at the Moosan Cafe?” states Johnny.
First line of dialogue on the second part: Mr. Fawcett explains why the bank had to take control of her husbands newspaper in Dawson City. “You understand of course,” states Mr. Fawcett.
How jarring is it when the first part ends? Minimal, Mrs. Edmonds (Agnes Moorehead) and her four daughters have adjusted well to their new life in Dawson City, Yukon. However with news of her father’s death (leaving behind no money) the women must adjust to their new reality.
Which part is better? The film is mostly a forgetful experience, but the musical numbers are an entertaining watch even though they don’t advance the plot. Part two is significantly better as Katherine, Patricia (Teresa Brewer), Connie and Nell (The Bell Sisters) begin to support themselves, each working vastly different jobs. It is also revealed who is ultimately responsible for the death of Vance Edmonds (Frank Wilcox) and their motive.
