Where does the first part end? General Bethlehem (Will Patton) informs his army that his troops will be moving north.

Final line of dialogue on the first part: “You spelt tyranny wrong.” Bethlehem states to captured postal carrier 12.

First line of dialogue on the second part: “Wish they would stop saluting” states The Postman (Kevin Costner) to various postal carriers.

How jarring is it when the first part ends? Somewhat, the army of the Holnists lead by General Bethlehem have begun their journey north to confront the postal carriers. Will the postal carriers be able to defend themselves and the communities they serve?

Which part is better? Overall the film is relatively slow with moments of action. In part one the Postman is captured by the Holnists group, but escapes. He begins to travel from village to village as the Postman bringing with him hope and purpose. His way of life inspires other to follow in his foot steps. Part two shows the confrontation between the postal carriers and the Holnists. The confrontation between the postal carriers and the Holnists is quiet disappointing and flat. Most of the films substance is seen in part one of the film. For this reason part one is the better of the two.
