Where does the first film end? The Nebuchadnezzar crew is picked up by another ship, the Mjolnir following the Sentinel attack.

Final line of dialogue on the first film: “Only one,” Roland (Nation Fillion) answers Link’s (Harold Perrineau) question about whether there are any other survivors.

First line of dialogue on the second film: Following the opening title sequence, Mjonlnir operator AK (Robert Mammone) states “I got nothing, sir. No sign of Niobe or Ghost.”

How jarring is it when the first film ends? Jarring, Neo is currently unconscious, but alive. Another survivor has also been rescued, the Smith-possessed Bane. Has Agent Smith finally been able to cross over from the Matrix to the real world? Also with Zion’s defences completely compromised due to an EMP explosion, how will the remaining humans defend against the machines counter offensive?

Which film part is better? The two films were released six months apart from each other and can be considered one film split into two distinct parts. The Matrix: Reloaded is far better than The Matrix: Revolutions as it expands on a lot of interesting themes such as the origin of the Matrix and the roles of the Oracle and the Architect. Revolutions on the other hand, drags on, resulting in a disappointing climax. Both parts have redeeming action sequences, but Reloaded’s highway car chase scene outshines the Revolution’s final Neo vs. Smith battle scene. As a result Reloaded is significantly better.
