Where does the first part end? Arthur Goldman (Maximilian Schell) and Charlie Cohn (Lawrence Pressman) are kidnapped by Mossad agents who look to take them both back to Israel. Arthur Goldman is being charged as a Nazi war criminal.
Final line of dialogue on the first part: “Charlie, when you wake up, first thing, go by St. Patrick’s, step up to the front and ask JC if i’m getting the hang of it,” Arthur Goldman states.
First line of dialogue on the second part: “Oh my god a princess!” Arthur Goldman refers to Miriam Rosen (Lois Nettlwton) the public prosecutor.
How jarring is it when the first part ends? Somewhat, Arthur Goldman is being charged as a Nazi war criminal and has been kidnapped in order to stand trial in Israel. Is Arthur Goldman actually Karl Allendorf a Nazi SS officer?
Which part is better? The second half is better as Arthur Goldman is put on trial confirming he killed Jews, but only because he was told to. This trial highlights the social psychology of the Holocaust, but ultimately ends with a dramatic twist.
