Where does the first part end? Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver) speaks with his priest (John Kavanagh), awaiting King Charles VI’s (Alex Lawther) decision.
Final line of dialogue on the first part: “What now?” Jacques Le Gris responds his priest.
First line of dialogue on the second part: “You will have 330 leaves of coin, cloth, and jewels, in addition to the estate…” Carrogues’ Priest reads the dowry at Sir Jean de Carrouges (Matt Damon) and Marguerite de Carrouges (Jodie Comer) wedding.
How jarring is it when the first part ends? Minimal, the first scene of the film shows the start of the duel between Sir Jean de Carrouges and Jacques Le Gris riding horseback. There is no suspense as to whether this duel will happen, but more mystery as to who will come out victorious.
Which part is better? The film is split into four sections. The first part of the film addresses the point of view of Sir Jean de Carrouges and then Jacques Le Gris. Part two of the film shows Marguerote de Carrouges point of view and the duel itself. Part two is better as we are able to see the truth of the events leading up to the duel as well as the duel itself.
