Where does the first part end? Susie (Dakota Johnson) puts on makeup, getting ready for the opening performance of Volk. She speaks with Miss Vendegast (Ingrid Caven).

Final line of dialogue on the first part: “Where is Sara?” asks Susie. Miss Vendegast responds “She came early in the morning, did her makeup and left.”

First line of dialogue on the second part: “Good evening, welcome.” Dr. Klemperer (Tilda Swinton) is welcomed and escorted into the performance hall. A title screen appears ‘Act Five- In the Mutterhaus: All the Floors are Darkness.’

How jarring is it when the first part ends? Minimal/Somewhat, Sara has become suspicious of the Markos Dance Academy believing that the disappearance of past dancer Patricia was no accident. Meanwhile, Susie prepares for her opening performance of Volk. Is this truly an opening performance or something more sinister?

Which part is better? The mystery surrounding the Markos Dance Academy leans towards a cult evil with an unknown intention. Part one provides the mystery and suspense and part two provides the gore and clarity. Overall, part two is given the advantage as it brings forth the final acts of the film and an extremely disturbing final ritual.
