Part 2 Time:  73 Minutes (Director’s Cut:  87 Minutes)

Where does the first part end?

Theatrical/ Director’s Cut:: Ice Cube (O’Shea Jackson Jr.) rejects the contract offer by Jerry Heller (Paul Giamatti).

Final line of dialogue on the first part:

Theatrical/ Director’s Cut: “Bye Jerry, I’m Out!” states Ice Cube.

First line of dialogue on the second part:

Theatrical/ Director’s Cut: N.W.A. returns to Los Angeles following their first nationwide tour. While exiting the tour bus D.O.C. (Marlon Yates Jr.) shouts to Suge Knight (R. Marcus Taylor), “what up, big Suge?”

How jarring is it when the first part ends? Minimal, N.W.A has developed a new genre of hip-hop music known as reality rap (gangsta rap) and has begun to change the culture of America. However manager Jerry Heller and Easy-E (Jason Mitchell ) seem to have an agreement between them that takes advantage of the other N.W.A. members, resulting in one of the main members (Ice Cube) going solo. Will Ice Cube be successful going solo and if so will this cause beef with members of N.W.A?

Which part is better? The film is split into two distinct parts, with part one showcasing the rise and success of N.W.A. The second half highlights N.W.A. moving forward post 1989, as well as the solo careers of both Ice Cube and Dr. Dre (Corey Hawkins). Part two is better as we are able to see the impacts that members of N.W.A have on the music industry as they pursue solo careers.
