***It is suggested that audience members watch the first two films of the series (Curse of the Black Pearl, and Dead Man’s Chest) in order to understand various character backgrounds and relationships.
Where does the first part end? Jack Sparrow escapes Lord Cutler Beckett’s ship following an arranged meeting.
Final line of dialogue on the first part: “Do you think he plans it all out, or just makes it up as he goes along? Sir.” Norrington (Jack Davenport) states to Lord Cutler Beckett.
First line of dialogue on the second part: “By this time tomorrow, we will arrive at Shipwreck Cove and you will be free.” Captain Sao Feng speaks to Elizabeth Swann.
How jarring is it when the first part ends? Somewhat, the events that have unfolded in part one are undoubtedly leading towards an all out conflict between various groups and individuals. Who will be victorious?
Which part is better? Part one continues to build on the previous two Pirates of the Caribbean films, with the final conclusion being presented in part two of this film. Part two is overwhelming better than the first part, with non-stop action, the tying up of many sub plots, and the realization of character ambitions. Part two displays the chaos of privateering in the world’s oceans during the 18th century in a playful fantasy Disney style.
