Where does the first part end? Barabbas (Harry Guardino) explains his plan to raid the The Antonia Fortress in Jerusalem. This attack will take place when Jesus speaks at the third Jewish Temple.
Final line of dialogue on the first part: “Is that fair or not? Yes fair.” Barabbas speaks with his men.
First line of dialogue on the second part: “No one but Barabbas would attempt such a thing” Lucius (Ron Randell) speaks as he wields a sica. Pontius Pilate (Hurd Hatfield) and Claudia (Viveca Lindfors) are also present.
How jarring is it when the first part ends? Minimal, two different forces work to end Roman rule in Jerusalem. The rise of peace with Christianity, following Jesus and the rule of god. The other force of brutality and war with Barabbas. Both forces, though not in allegiance with one another, will bring about events that will forever be written into human history.
Which part is better? The film shows the entire life of Jesus, from his birth until his resurrection. What makes this adaptation of Jesus’ life story different from other versions is this film’s ability to highlight the geopolitics of the region during this time. Part two is better as Jesus arrives in Jerusalem. He is arrested, put through a trial, crucified, and resurrected.
