Where does the first part end? At camp, Anna (Elsa Martinelli) wants to take a bath in the river, but due to the environment she must go with another person for protection. Everyone is talking at camp, deciding who will go with her.

Final line of dialogue on the first part: “I have the Short Straw Brad” Sean (John Wayne) speaks to the group. Anna responds “Let’s Go,” as she walks toward the river.

First line of dialogue on the second part: Later at night, “John, Tell Me something,” Kurt (Hardy Krüger) asks about the drawing straws incident.

How jarring is it when the first part ends? None, at this point in the film Sean and Anna do not have a romantic relationship nor has it been hinted at. Sean is going with Anna to protect her from wild animals. There is no threat or major plot change in the film.

Which part is better? Both parts highlight how safari animals are captured alive for captivity. Part two is given the slight edge as we are able to see the growth in Sean and Anna’s relationship.
