Where does the first part end?  Barry has an argument with Lady Lyndon’s aged and terminally sick husband Sir Charles Lyndon. Sir Charles Lyndon suffers a heart attack.

Final line of dialogue on the first part: Narrator speaks “He has left behind him the name which is dear”

First line of dialogue on the second part: Set one year after the events in part one’s final scene. Lady Lyndon and Barry are married, the priest speaks “Dearly Beloved.”

How jarring is it when the first part ends? Somewhat, Barry has managed to become part of England’s high society due to his luck and uncanny timing. Will Barry’s good fortunes continue or is it finally beginning to run out?

Which part is better? Both parts are phenomenal highlighting the highs and lows of Barry’s life. Part two is slightly better as it concludes Barry’s story and the limitation of his fortunes.
